What people believed 2000 years ago

The people who wrote the bible were very un-educated ignorant superstitious, goat and sheep herders

A god could have easily created the heavens and the earth in just six days, because they thought the earth was flat, and the earth was the center of the universe, and the Sun rode across the sky on the back of a giant tortoise.

They thought a god and jesus lived in the clouds above

They thought a god wanted animal sacrifice for atonement of sins

They thought the shedding of blood was a gift to god for forgiveness

They thought diseases were caused by demons and evil spirits, we now know (with the invention of the microscope) that diseases are caused by bacteria, viruses and germs

They thought the heart was the center of all thought and emotions, we now know it is the brain that controls all thought and emotions

They thought a rainbow was a gods covenent not to flood the earth, yet we still have floods, we now know that rain drops cause a prisim effect, rainbows are only visible during the day

They thought sacrificing a human-being would make their imaginary god forgive people of all their sins forever

They believed in miracles, dreams, visions, blessings, ghosts, invisible spirits, angels, demons, prayer, baptism, speaking in tongues,

They believed a snake and bush and a donkey could talk

They believed people could be rasied from the dead

They believed virgin birth was possible

Why did they believe all this?

Because they were very ignorant!

Are you that ignorant too in 2007?

If you claim to be a Christian, you are just as ignorant as the people who wrote the Bible over 2000 years ago.

Do you enjoy anger? I'm not going to say much else but: YOU'RE WRONG! And one day you'll see what I mean.

Deacon Barry said...

Of course Steven's angry. He's right in the middle of the war zone, fighting the good fight against the forces of fear and repression.

Hey Steven, you say back then they were on dope. One, it didn't exist back then. Two, are you sure your not the one on dope?

Steven Bently said...

Corey it is so obvious you never read one thing I wrote above, not once did I mention they were on dope, although I'm sure they were.

Then you say, "one day I'll see" which day? the day that is promised in your holy book written by men (over 2000 years ago)?

Corey, Please wake up!

You will quickly defend your bible, but you will not defend the Qu'ran, why not? Because you have been told the bible is absolutely true, you've (Been Told, by other humans) get it?

Had you been born in Iraq, you would have (Been Told, by other humans) that the Qu'ran is the absolute truth, you would be defending the Qu'ran and bowing to Allah 5 times a day.

What you are defending is words that you have been told are true that was written down in a book by men and was called inspired by a god, that's all you have is a book written by humans, on drugs, no doubt, and heroin has been in use in the middle east for thousands of years, google it up if you don't believe it.

I'm not replying to your post, I'm replying to past comments. Steven, I don't come on here to antagonize you. I'm here to help you. Who told you the book was true when you were a believer, HUMANS! Who told you it's not true, HUMANS! So how do you which one to believe? I don't believe the Quran because obviously, I've been told Christianity will get me on the right track. It's true. God loved me enough to die for me? He loved me, a human being, a sinner, a hypocrite, enough to send his OWN son to die for me? What did he gain by doing this? Not a thing. He laid a plan for salvation, and said to follow it. If God loves me enough to do all of that for me, the least I could do is follow him, trust him to save me from a horrible, literal, burning place in the center of the Earth called Hell! I will follow the one my God, because he loves me enough to even care!

"Who told you it's not true, HUMANS!"

I can't speak for everybody, but in my case, no one told me it wasn't true. I figured it out all by myself.

It only requires a little common sense, Corey...very little.

Non-believers in Bible-God don't go to church Sunday after Sunday to be indoctrinated. Unlike you, we have a brain and we use it.

You should dust yours, too. Perhaps there is hope for you yet.

Steven Bently said...

You're just being ridiclous.

Who told you that you were a sinner? A human, a god, a jesus, a book written by men?

The first thing is to invent a problem (sin) then create a solution to the problem (salvation), so rididclous.

Do you think that your mom and dad discussed your eternal salvation before your dad inseminated your mother? Do you really believe this?

Why would anyone in their right mind brimg forth a child into the world with even a remote slight chance of this child being sent to a hell in the center of the earth as you ignorantly say, just because they happen not to believe in the right religion?

Are you so crass and ignorant to think there exists a god that can create the universe in just six days and then care about what people think and believe in their minds?

Are you this weak minded, I can imagine you are since you follow baseball like it is a god to you.

I understand you are young, but you are very ignorant because you believe things written in a book over 2000 years ago by very ignorant people and you are just worshipping ignorance that was written down in a book and that includes baseball too.

Corey Bishop said...

Steven, I like baseball, a lot. But it isn't a god to me. You two, well Steven was saved before, don't know about Lorena, are headed for Hell. If you don't stop this non sense, God will send you there with no problem.

Corey,

According to your theory, we will wait till we die to go to hell.

But you are already in hell. Enslaved by a tyrannic, egotistic god who demands that you give your life to him if you want to survive.

It was hell to be a Christian. That's why I am now an ex-Christian.

Deacon Barry said...

Christianity may not be Hell for some people, but Freedom, it certainly is not. Formal religion is only a waypoint on an individual's spiritual journey. Most people have some encounter with it during their life, and valuable lessons can be learned from it. The problem comes, when the pilgrim mistakes the symbolism for reality, and becomes ensnared in the dogma. If the pilgrim can look beyond the superficial face of religion, and break free of the fisherman's net, only then will he know true liberation.
Americans are wallowing in the Slough of Despond, and you need blogs like this one to illuminate the path to true wisdom.
In Buddhist temples, monks deep in meditation will sometimes get a whack over the head with a stick to shock them into a state of enlightenment. Consider Steven's blog as that stick.

"1 John 2:19
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us."

I take that as a compliment, actually. Yes, I wasn't one of you. I am much better. I have a brain and I use it.

"We are to strive to study, learn and apply Biblical teaching to our lives and live out these understandings."

Apparently, you are not studying hard enough. Biblical scholars have, since the 14th century, known that the Bible is not a factual, historic book. The catholic church went after, and destroyed, the early discoveries. But 600 years of biblical studies have led enlightened scholars to the conclusion that the bible was written by many authors never mentioned on the text, and as late as 800 years after the writings are claimed to be from.

The Christian interpretation of the ancients writings is disgraceful, to say the least.

With the Protestant Reformation, the "by faith alone" doctrine became the rule. It means that nothing we do or are can save us from God's wrath and curse. (Hmmm, that's the "loving god, right?) Only by faith in Jesus can we be saved. Seems like a way people can do bad stuff all through life and get a pass from God. Wonder if Adolf Hitler had faith in Jesus? Is he sitting with God simply because he accepted Jesus as his savior? I know very good people who do not believe in Jesus or God. According to the Christian Protestant doctrine, they are doomed. But Adolph... maybe not.
